Dear Mayor Kleinschmidt and Town Council Members:
I am writing to ask the Council to voice concern about the proposed Central West Small Area Plan which endorsed high densities at the intersection of Estes and MLK. Unlike the Downtown and the Fordham- Ephesus study areas, dense development cannot fit onto the already crowded Estes Drive.
Presently Estes Drive carries 14,000 trips a day. Given normal town growth, Carolina North, and this proposal, the Town is inviting a nightmare scenario for Estes Drive. Given that this road is on of the few east-west connectors, and many communters and hundreds of parents and school kids access Phillips Middle and Estes Elementary Schools, why would the Town want to make the existing problems worse?
Please support the Alternate Citizens’ Plan as a guide for future growth. I request that the Town Council commit to the fundamental studies described in the Planning Board recommendations before rezoning occurs.
